While working on my damn spam plugin I decided to look into integrating projecthoneypot.org support, which lead to me thinking: Why not just make a web api, so it doesn’t matter what os / permissions a user has. This of course lead to a greenlight in my head of… why not build it with couchdb in the backend…

So I’m still waiting on feedback from projecthoneypot.com, and stopforumspam.com

Ok the spammers have officially pissed me off. I don’t know about you, but everytime I get a message saying: new registration it’s like biting into a york peppermint patty, minus the patty.

So for like the past week I’ve been getting a steady stream of users, only yo find out they’re all spammers…

Adsense has seriously let their standards slip over the last year, and now it’s offically gone to crap. One one project we’ve have porn, adult ads, spam, scams, and lions and tigers and bears – oh my.

but seriously – why has adsense gone straight to crap. On a family friendly coppa site we’re recieving complaints of non safe ads for months, and nothing to do about it.

If your running a kid / family friendlysite, find another option, like gofish

Of course, I’m still running google ads on personal sites. As far as projects go, stay away from adsense.

We haven’t been lucky enough to only receive unsafe text ads, but images as well of women wearing next to nothing playing with each other, graphic dating site ads, religious propaganda, etc.

I just came across another span trick. instead of using google pages their using googles search filtering and the i feel lucky feature

most filters let this message through, and google doesn’t catch it

so filter on inurl: and the im feeling lucky part of the url. if both match message is blocked

lately i’ve been having alot of spam get through to my inbox, and I was wondering why? I noticed a common trend : googlepages.com. about 80-90% of the spam that got through is using a google page site to redirect users.

Hopefully google will finally add some filters for this. till then just add a filter on the body for googlepages.com. works for me

I’m shutting down this project due to spam concerns, lack of time, and because it can be done a lot better.

Next Steps

http://myspaceapi.info It’s not live, and i have no idea when i’ll start or finish it, but i’m aiming for an end of the year launch. I’ve realized a lot of flaws in both the execution and direction of this project, and will release a web based service / api that i hope better meets the actual needs of users vs a class of functions i toss together as time permits i hope to release a full fledged api for myspace. a big thanx to Design Is Fuel. They’ve pointed me into a much better direction and i think everyone will be happy with the results.

the class as it stands is open source – basically that means everything you can download from this page is yours and the web’s.

To everyone that contributed : Don’t worry i’m axing the entire class and working from the ground up. but please send me your info if it’s not listed so i can add it. once the api gets up i’ll release a developers resource.

After trying to play catch up with myspace i’ve chosen to rewrite the entire class. this should hopefully allow for a better application. this version was released on june 18, 2007, and is the last version to be released before the rewrite.

You’ll notice this version includes what is the start of documentation. from this date forward i’ll include the entire documentation site as part of the zip.

sweet, i think i posted about a guide to using google to download music. anyways audio raider does all that heavy lifting for you, and filter out spam. it uses googles ajax service service to find directories with the music your looking for

found this search term in my stats. if your searching for this you have one of three issues.

1. your profile was harvested to make spam accounts
2. your profile is hacked
3. you get drunk and forget you posted them

if #1

message the account telling them to stop, add it to friends, comment as much as possible letting everyone know it’s a spammers account, and flag them ( hell have friends do it to). your issues should end there.

change your password!, i recommend from a different computer in case your system is compromised. use a strong password using at least 2 of each of the following:
uppercase
lowercase
symbols
numbers

I was hoping to get some information for the creator, but found a new issue instead.

first off let me say I’m sure this isn’t an issue most users will probably get.

I have feedwordpress running on wordpress 2.2.1 and pulling from 14 different feeds. again as i said this is probably an issue most users will never have (i mean really why would pull from 14 different feeds).

I should note, not i’m not spamming it’s a site i made for “j” so she can read gossip, etc all in one place. see us geeks can come in handy

for some reason the entire public view of the site gave a completely blank page, the post listing page in admin displayed, just without posts, and the options tab for the plugin was blank where the options should have been. the update tab had no issues updating, and apparently was already up to date.

after disabling, then enabling the plugin the issue was resolved, and all previous settings were retained.

this has happened about 3 times so far. I’m removing some the feeds (sorry j) and i’ll do an update shortly
