Facebook so rocks, they have posted not only their memcached patches, but also explain what they needed to change in linux to properly utilize them. facebook +1, myspace – well they still suck

If you’ve read anything about scaling large websites, you’ve probably heard about memcached. memcached is a high-performance, distributed memory object caching system. Here at Facebook, we’re likely the world’s largest user of memcached. We use memcached to alleviate database load. memcached is already fast, but we need it to be faster and more efficient than most installations. We use more than 800 servers supplying over 28 terabytes of memory to our users. Over the past year as Facebook’s popularity has skyrocketed, we’ve run into a number of scaling issues. This ever increasing demand has required us to make modifications to both our operating system and memcached to achieve the performance that provides the best possible experience for our users.

http://myspaceapi.info It’s not live, and i have no idea when i’ll start or finish it, but i’m aiming for an end of the year launch. I’ve realized a lot of flaws in both the execution and direction of this project, and will release a web based service / api that i hope better meets the actual needs of users vs a class of functions i toss together as time permits i hope to release a full fledged api for myspace. a big thanx to Design Is Fuel. They’ve pointed me into a much better direction and i think everyone will be happy with the results.

the class as it stands is open source – basically that means everything you can download from this page is yours and the web’s.

To everyone that contributed : Don’t worry i’m axing the entire class and working from the ground up. but please send me your info if it’s not listed so i can add it. once the api gets up i’ll release a developers resource.

After trying to play catch up with myspace i’ve chosen to rewrite the entire class. this should hopefully allow for a better application. this version was released on june 18, 2007, and is the last version to be released before the rewrite.

You’ll notice this version includes what is the start of documentation. from this date forward i’ll include the entire documentation site as part of the zip.

The access class is a php4/php5 class to allow anyone to access myspace remotely. It is not a proxy service.

1. your profile was harvested to make spam accounts
2. your profile is hacked
3. you get drunk and forget you posted them

message the account telling them to stop, add it to friends, comment as much as possible letting everyone know it’s a spammers account, and flag them ( hell have friends do it to). your issues should end there.

change your password!, i recommend from a different computer in case your system is compromised. use a strong password using at least 2 of each of the following:
uppercase
lowercase
symbols
numbers

just found out it’s labor day weekend this weekend, so i’m gonna celebrate by finally finishing up the myspace rss features for myspaceapi.info. so hopefully by monday the site should be up and running by monday

I’ll have the other features up once i get time to look more into finishing my captha bypass function

well tonight (as a break for an svn / trac /amazon s3 system – notice thread in posts) i checked my alexa rank. i’m like 688,*** weird i only get about 3-4 000 hits a month (i’m guesstamating the blackout periods) so why am i only 120*** away from an old client that i know has an entire team devoted to only myspace advertising, and with a min of 5000+ pageviews per day?……

a quick google shows plenty of people who aren’t to happy with their stats either….

not that it matters as this is basically a blog to share info (and to assist with my bad memory).

anyways yippie i rank higher than 75% of my clients which really doesn’t matter, come one whose really gonna keep visiting a design firms site

roderick russell used the class to make a cross posting wordpress plugin, so now worries, you can use that till myspaceapi.info launches

My schedule is pretty hectic right now, so no eta on this. I’m porting the access class into an api which will be available at : myspaceapi.info. This will allow use of the class via pseudo webservices
